What to expect

I read it the way a stranger would.

We pull your profile up together and I go through it cold, in the order someone in HR would: headline, then the first two lines of your summary, then your most recent role. I tell you what I understood about you at each stop, and where I stopped understanding. Most of the fixes turn out to be small.

What we cover

  • Your headline, and whether it tells anyone what you do or just names your title
  • Your summary section and how well it communicates who you are and what you bring
  • How your experience descriptions read to someone scanning quickly
  • How you describe your skills, and the words people in your field actually use for them
  • What is missing, out of date, or working against the impression you want to make
  • Overall positioning for the roles you are targeting

What I usually find

  • A headline that repeats your job title and says nothing about what you do
  • A summary written in the third person that sounds like a press release
  • Recent, relevant experience left off because it felt too small to mention
  • A student headline still in place months after graduation
  • No indication of what kind of work you are actually looking for

Why you make the updates

Same reason I will not rewrite your resume. If someone does reach out and gets you on a phone call, the person on the phone has to sound like the profile. I can tell you what is unclear and suggest how to fix it. What you change, and how it ends up sounding, stays yours.
